Wishes Granted

Marching with the High School Band Once Again

Francis Brewer

"I am not worth all this fuss," said Frances Dunn Brewer, 84, of Collierville Health and Rehab. Frances played the drums in the Collierville High School Marching Band from 1939-1942. After graduation, she attended Murray State University where she continued her music. Mrs. Brewer's wish was to be reunited on the field with the CHS Marching Band, and after 65 years, to once again play with the percussion section.

On homecoming night, Frances' wish came true. Wearing a band uniform with band sticks in hand, the cheerleaders presented Mrs. Brewer with a dozen roses and a Murray State University bag. When asked about her band days, Mrs. Brewer said, "We had the best time. I enjoyed marching in parades most of all."

(Special thanks to Collierville High School Principal Tim Setterlund and Band Director Ken Croft for making this wish possible. They made it very special.)
