Day of Sightseeing

Lorraine Hughes, 84, had a simple wish: Leave the nursing home and go sightseeing. Lorraine grew up in Memphis and wanted to see her former neighborhood and church. Since she doesn't have any family living in the United States, Lorraine hasn't been out of the nursing home in 9 years. "This means more to her than you'll ever know," says friend, Julanne Barham.

Diane wanted to make the day more special, so she asked several businesses to donate gifts. First, Lorraine stopped at Forest Hill Animal Hospital, so she could see a puppy and kitten. The joy on her face was undeniable! Sherry's Hallmark donated a Christmas gift (dancing snowmen), candy and a balloon. C.J. Lilly's donated a beautiful sunflower arrangement. Build-A-Bear discounted a stuffed puppy with Lorraine's dog's name on the birth certificate.

After eating a bar-be-que sandwich (Lorraine's choice), we visited her neighborhood and the church she attended while growing up in Memphis.

Several of the businesses want to continue contact with Lorraine through cards and letters. Also, the wish isn't over, for we have people who want to take her out again. Lorraine appreciates Forever Young so much for caring about her.
