Lelar Kilbrew, 76, is a gifted and loving woman. Not only has she been a cook for Memphis restaurants, schools, and private homes, but has also been a foster parent to many children. Mrs. Kilbrew is the mother of seven, not to mention the many children from Agape Church that she brought into her home to raise. She's made such a difference in their lives and has savored every moment with them.
We asked what was her favorite thing to cook at the restaurant she owned, her daughter Polly said, "Cakes and turkey/dressing." What is the secret ingredient to her turkey and dressing? "It was love," stated Polly. "She would start cooking a week before the holidays and you could just see the love in her. Presentation was as important as the food. It had to look and taste good."
The Kilbrew family is close to one another. The love they have for family is so evident; it makes you wish you had been born into their family. When Forever Young visited Mrs. Kilbrew about a wish, she only desired one thing- to have her family, friends, and foster children around her. Forever Young joined with daughters Polly and Bettie to give her a birthday party to remember as well as provide some clothes and perfumes she had been asking for. Not only does The Killbrew family love one another, they loved us as well. They were so grateful for everything Forever Young did for their mother. When we left, we didn't know who had received the greatest blessing-the Killbrew family or Forever Young.
